Why Rice Bran Oil is What You Need for Dry, Flakey, Red Eyelid Skin: Boost Moisturization with We Love Eyes P.M. Eyelid Butter

Got Dry, Flakey, Red Eyelid Skin?
I’ve treated countless cases of dry, flaky, red eyelid skin in my clinic. This is damaged eyelid skin barrier and can be caused by many things. The eyelid skin has been stripped of its lipids - so it needs FATS to fix it. A very simple logic that works when the right ratio of FATS consisting of CERAMIDES - FATTY ACIDS - TRIGLYCERIDES is used. Here we will discuss my CERAMIDE - FATTY ACID of choice for dry, flakey, red eyelid skin – Oryza Sativa RICE BRAN OIL aka Orzya Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil.

What Is Oryza Sativa RICE BRAN OIL?
Oryza sativa (rice) bran oil is the fixed oil pressed from the outer layer of rice kernels. It consists primarily of the glycerides of linoleic, oleic, palmitic, and stearic fatty acids. Did you read that? LOTS OF FATTY ACIDS, yay! RICE BRAN OIL is a popular skin care ingredient in Asian cultures, particularly in Japan and Korea due to its moisturizing, anti-aging and skin-brightening properties.
In addition, CERAMIDES extracted from Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil are a 100% natural source of ceramide that actually produce a 'ceramide complex' that works to prevent moisture evaporation aka trans epidermal water loss (TEWL) by adding lipids into the eyelid skin barrier. The ceramides provides excellent moisture, along with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory support. Read: makes a healthy eyelid skin barrier biome!

-
Oleic Acid: Monounsaturated fatty acid, typically around 42-52%.
-
Linoleic Acid: Polyunsaturated fatty acid, typically around 27-40%.
-
Palmitic Acid: Saturated fatty acid, typically around 13-22%.
-
Stearic Acid: Another saturated fatty acid, present in smaller amounts.
-
Alpha-Linolenic Acid: Polyunsaturated fatty acid, present in trace amounts (approximately 1.25%).
-
Myristic Acid: Saturated fatty acid, also present in smaller amounts.
RICE BRAN OIL and CERAMIDES
Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil contains ceramides, which are naturally occurring lipids that play a crucial role in maintaining eyelid skin's barrier function. These ceramides, along with other components like fatty acids, are believed to contribute to the oil's moisturizing and barrier-improving properties, helping to keep moisture in and external irritants out. I definitely believe that dry, red, flakey under eyes cannot repair without the right ceramides - fatty acid - cholesterols ratio!
Back to Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil. It contains various types of ceramides, including glucosylceramides and elasticamide, which are thought to contribute to the oil's moisturizing and eyelid skin-protecting effects.
The ceramides in Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil are believed to help improve eyelid skin's moisture barrier, protect against trans-epidermal water loss, and may also have anti-melanogenic effects, potentially helping to reduce skin pigmentation.

Repairing the Eyelid Skin Barrier
Yes, RICE BRAN OIL is a rich source of eyelid skin barrier repairing fatty acids & ceramides. These lipids strengthen the eyelid skin’s natural barrier, locking in moisture and defending against environmental stressors. Simply put: keep the good stuff in - keep the bad stuff out!
How to Use in Your Night Time Routine
Start with a clean face. I recommend using the double cleanse method especially on the eye area. Gently tap P.M. Eyelid Butter along the upper and/or lower eyelids. Here you see I'm tapping 'dots' onto my under eye area. Gently tap with fingertips to spread and blend into the eyelid skin.
Because P.M. Eyelid Butter is very thick; my patients with 'crepey' eyelid skin - there cab be more pulling or tugging when applying. I have them use Focused Eye Roll to spread the eye cream. This ensures a very thin, even layer without having to use fingers that tug and pull. Wait 10-15 minutes before resting your head on your pillow. You’ll notice softer, more supple eyelid skin in about 30 days. I advise my patients to use it every night as the eyelid skin's repair cycles happen while you rest.
